How to care for lilies
To maintain freshness:
- Start with a spotless vase. Bacteria shortens flower life faster than anything else.
- Add flower food to fresh, cool water. Lilies prefer cold water, though lukewarm water helps buds open faster.
- Trim stems at a 45 degree angle and remove leaves below the waterline.
- Place out of direct sunlight and heat.
- Keep away from ripening fruit and vegetables, both produce ethylene gas that causes premature wilting.
- Refresh water every 1 to 2 days and re-trim the stems each time.
